United Airlines to Offer Mobile Booking

CHICAGO (Reuters) - United Airlines, the world's largest airline, will offer a new service that lets customers book flight tickets and view travel itineraries through Internet-enabled mobile phones, a unit of United parent UAL Corp. (NYSE:UAL - news) said on Monday.

UnitedNetWorks said it believes United is the first airline to offer these services, which can be accessed through any Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)-enabled phone.

The company said the wireless booking service enables travelers who are registered at its Web site, www.united.com, to purchase e-tickets for any United Airlines, United Shuttle or United Express flights for travel originating in the U.S..

Travelers can also check their itineraries, departure times and seat assignments.

United said it plans to add a feature in the future that would allow customers to wirelessly change previously booked flights.
